These paintings are exploration of modern photography, color, texture, light, shadow and 3 dimensional space.  Each photograph is mounted by hand on a homemade 1-inch poplar wood panel and receives up to four coats of high-gloss table-top resin, paint, and metallic pigments.

The process is flowing and spontaneous, like a dance - the moment the resin is mixed it begins to cure.  Most things in the new millenium have a ‘delete’ or ‘undo’ button... but here, nothing can be removed once applied.

Ultra-fine, crystalline, metallic pigment is mixed into each batch of resin, in colors that compliment and accentuate the print.  When exposed to light these pigments produce the same effect as sunshine on fresh snow.  Tens of thousands of crystals sparkle, dance, pop, fade, and shimmer at will, as if each flake is living and breathing.

Acrylic paint is applied while the resin is still wet to engage the 3rd dimension.  Brush strokes are fluid and suspended elegantly in the resin, casting shadows onto the image beneath it, or submerged, connecting the photograph to the space above it.  Variences in the buoyancy and viscosicty of each line of paint combined with gravity and fluid dynamics alters the nuances of each brushstroke as the resin cures
